Class theme/topics discussed: going out for coffee

Goal of the class: talking about everyday life while having coffee

Structure of the class (unless you attach your lesson plan below):

My students convinced me to go out for a coffee with them. I asked them to only speak German, which they did. Some of them even tried to order their coffee in German, which failed of course, since the waitress did not understand them. We were the only customers at the Sagahen Café. So I think that helped them not to switch to English.

What technology, media or props did you use? (satellite tv, internet ressources, playmobiles, etc.)

No technologie.

What worked well in this class? What did not work?

They talked a lot, so I think it was a good class. Topics we talked about were (besides others) studying abroad, US politics, and the recent Benetton commercial. I think it works very well, because topics just come up naturally.

How could this class be improved/ modified?

IMPORTANT TIPS:

  • Think about if you want to make your students pay (then all of them have to agree on that) or if you want to pay. If you go somewhere on campus, you can pay with flex money
  • Have some interesting topics you can talk about in mind
  • It is helpful if there are no or not many English speakers around.
