Class theme/topics discussed:

・Conversation in everyday life situation
(On Apri 21th)
Since just one student showed up this time, I took him to Starbucks Coffee, which is located in village. I brought the copies of Japanese Starbucks web site to talk about the difference between American Starbucks and Japanese one.

(On April 28th)
Since just one student showed up this time, I took her to Jamba Juice, which is located in village. We were just chatting there while drinking a juice.

How did you pick this theme?
I really wanted to group task today, but I could not do that because two of them did not come to the class. Since my student who showed up has highly motivated and want to know many colloquial expressions in daily life, I thought it would be great opportunity for him/her to learn them through real life situation.

How did you present the material? (handouts, group work, general discussion, student presentations, etc.)
handouts

How did students react?
My students really enjoyed chatting and drinking coffee/juice in real life situation.
They talked a lot more than usual.

What materials or media did you use? (articles, satellite tv, digital projector, etc.)

Would you recommend this activity for a future class?
Yes, of course if LRs still have money.

Why or why not?
Authentic situation is conductive to conversation. While drinking a coffee/juice, we could talk about many things like menu, people’s clothes, foods, hobby…etc. Students talked a lot!! That was amazing!!
