How did you pick this theme or topic?
We had already done the French American stereotypes, this time we did men/women and the 5Cs…
How did you present the material? (Handouts, group work, general discussion, student presentations, etc.)
I had a picture of the “cerveau feminin” then I asked them what we could fin on the picture of “le cerveau masculin”.
Then I asked them what categories of people could be submitted to stereotypes. They said, “nationalities, “ the gays”, “religions”… and finally the 5Cs students.
In groups of 3, I asked them to make a list of stereotypes for one college. 2 students were not from Pomona so they were in charge of the Pomona stereotypes.
We discussed tem afterwards, and finally I showed them 2 maps of “ le monde vu par les USA”
How did students react?
It was a lot of fun, even if sometimes they were a little embarrassed.
