Sentence auction

How did you pick this theme or topic?
Day of the Oldenborg Dinner, so we only had 45 minutes

How did you present the material? (Handouts, group work, general discussion, student presentations, etc.)
I explain the game: 3 teams of 4. They have a list of sentences ( see below). We read one sentence, the students have to guess if it is correct or if there is a mistake. If there’s a mistake according to them , they have to say WHAT the mistake is.
Also, they have to bet (secretly!) a certain amount of…M&Ms after 2 mn, I collect their bet and we correct the sentence.
If two teams have the right answer, the winning one is the one that bet the most M7Ms. ( you have to give a limit other wise they will bet 100000000000000 M&Ms…)
How did students react?
They liked it

Did they engage with each other and you?
Yes! They actually asked a lot of good questions. It enable me to review some grammar points.

Would you recommend this activity for a future class?
Yes, but I would organize it differently. It was too superficial

1) Si je n’étais pas arrivé en retard, j’aurais été capable de faire le test.
2) Hier, à la cantine, Hilary a renversé son ver d’eau sur la table.
3) Mes cheveux sont trop longs, demain je vais au coiffeur.
4) L’an prochain des étudiants vont partir à l’étranger mais ils ne savent pas ou aller.
5) Mon père était en colère. Il m’a dit : « Tu me fatigues ! Vas dans ta chambre ! »
6) Ce film est un adaptation intéressant du livre.
